what happened with gaming in 2020 that has grown so much?!?!?!?

The gaming industry has been growing a lot in the past years, but because of the pandemic in 2020, it has grown ever more. But maybe you’ve found yourself asking why that happened — or maybe you didn’t and is asking that right now — . There are loads of studies of the industry that explains why, but I’m here to write specifically about how we, generally, reconnected with our inner child.

Personally I grew up with gaming always by my side. I played all sorts of games with my brother and cousins and that always made me feel closer to them, but we all grew up and lived in different places, cities and even countries. With that, I didn’t have that side of mine very evident, but it was always there waiting to say “hey there! i’ve missed playing with you 🥰” to me.

With the pandemic, I didn’t have much to do. I had to return to my hometown, but I was living only with my father — and he’s not very into playing games — . I needed to find a way to turn off my working and studying brain to have a truly relaxing moment. And I found that with playing games with my friends!

It all started when I was talking to my friends via Zoom calls — those famous ones from quarantine — and one of them started streaming the games he most liked for us. That made me remember all the moments I spent growing up with my brother and cousins and the fun we all had playing. After that day, I started talking to him about it all. We started playing together, getting more people to join us in this gaming journey, reviewing games for each other and just being very happy that we had someone else to share all those thoughts to.

After some time, I’ve realised that I really wanted to be a part of the gaming industry more directly and actively. That was when I started looking up for internships in the industry and found one at Twitch. I immediately went to them him all about it — and I explained to him what Twitch was, just in case, but he obviously already knew, silly me — . After that I actually applied and got a no, but I started working on my knowledge and skill set, so I could be more prepared.

The thing here is: I reconnected with my inner child and that was an amazing thing to me. I was able to remember why I used to love it so much as a kid, and it’s amazing to see how much growth the industry had the past years, but mainly in 2020 and how that was a way of relief for many.

Games are all about creating this amazing experience to its players! It’s all about giving them the feeling of escape of reality, of stress relief and that you’re not by yourself.

Hey! I’m a college student that decided to reconnect with writing during quarantine in Brazil. I’ll post some thoughts of mine but feel free to read it all 🥰.
